The Madrona Institute Announces 2025 Request for Proposals San Juan Islands Stewardship Grant Fund

The Madrona Institute is pleased to announce the opening of its 2025 Request for Proposals for the San Juan Islands Stewardship Fund, supported by proceeds from the sales of the San Juan Islands Special License Plate.

The Stewardship Fund provides small grants to eligible organizations to support youth-focused environmental programs and climate resiliency initiatives across San Juan County. For 2025, a total of $25,000 in grant funding is available. Individual project proposals may request between $1,000 and $10,000.

Eligible applicants:

Eligible applicants include nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, tribal entities, government agencies, and educational institutions.


Proposal criteria:

The proposed project or program must be based in the San Juan Islands. It must also include one or more of the following:

●      Youth engagement, though it can be intergenerational

●      Climate adaptation, mitigation, or resilience

●      Environmental stewardship

●      Environmental and/or climate education

 

Application Process

The first step in the Madrona Institute’s Stewardship Fund grant application process is to submit a letter of inquiry (LOI) to: eden@madrona.org no later than October 24, 2025.

Letter of Inquiries should be 1-3 pages and include the following:

●      Description of applicant organization, including mission, vision, and capacity to complete project

●      Summary of proposed project and how it meets the proposal criteria.

●      Brief examples of previously completed projects

Madrona Institute will review all LOIs and identify those that are most in line with the Stewardship Fund goals and priorities. Selected applicant organizations may be invited to a video or phone call with Madrona Institute members with supplemental questions or to request financial information.

Funding decisions are anticipated to be made in early November, 2025.

2025 Available Funding
$25,000 is available to support eligible organizations. Proposals can range from $1,000 to $10,000.
