About Us:

The Madrona Institute, an independent 501(c)3 non-governmental organization, is dedicated to the conservation and stewardship of our local ecosystem.

Our Initiatives:

  • Coast Salish Youth Coalition (CSYC): Founded in 2017, CSYC serves inter-tribal indigenous youth aged 14+ with ancestral ties to the San Juan Islands. This program combines inter-generational cultural events with education, environmental stewardship, and employment opportunities. Coordinated by a 100% Indigenous inter-tribal board, CSYC is fiscally sponsored by The Madrona Institute.

  • San Juan Islands Special License Plate Program: Empowering local organizations with small grants through the Madrona Stewardship Fund, supporting youth engagement, environmental stewardship, climate action, and social justice. Funding is sourced from the sales of San Juan Islands Special License plates through the Department of Licensing. Purchase your beautiful plate today!

  • Stewardship Network of the San Juans: A coalition of private and public conservation-based organizations with a vision of a healthy, thriving ecosystem in the San Juan Islands. We work collaboratively on education, outreach, volunteer, and science initiatives to promote awareness and shared responsibility for the Salish Sea ecosystem.

  • Island Climate Resilience Program: Sponsoring educational presentations to elevate climate conversations and present innovative solutions. Our focus is on providing resources and perspectives to identify problems and present viable solutions, from the federal level to individual households, aiming to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

💚 How You Can Help:
